"Vitamin Sea" Client - Natural England
Open water swimming is becoming more and more popular in the U.K. and as such, we were contacted by one of our favourite clients to create a short documentary about the physical and mental benefits of cold water swimming around the coast of England.
The concept was simple, we found four people from different backgrounds with different stories to tell about how open water swimming has changed their lives in a positive way.
Vitamin Sea is yet to be released however, if you would like to view the film, you can contact us at david@scarletviewmedia.com and we’d be happy to give you temporary access to view the film in full.
Production
Concept, Location & Team
The concept for the film was to create a “micro-doc” style piece using personal stories to highlight how cold water swimming can have quantifiable benefits when it comes to improving both physical and mental health.
We interspersed interview footage with beautiful, cinematic imagery of our subjects to highlight the enjoyment and stress release they experience when swimming.
All footage was shot on-location in Northumberland, North Yorkshire, Sussex and North Shields with a three-person team comprising David Diley (Director/DoP), Ollie Putnam (Aerial Cinemtaographer/Production Assistant) and David Lawrie (Sound Recordist).
Kit
The footage was filmed on the Panasonic AU-EVA1 and BMPCC 6K Pro with a selection of lenses including the Sigma Cine Prime 18-35, Sigma 60-600, Samyang 85mm and Canon 24-105.
Audio captured on-location using a Zoom F-8 Field Recorder, Zoom H handheld recorder and an audio technical AT440 shotgun microphone.
Post-Production
Edit, Grade & Sound Design
The edit, including the creation of proxies and selects took about eight days, and was competed using Adobe Premiere Pro.
Colour grading was done by David Diley in DaVinci Resolve Studio without the use of LUTs, handling the look build in a manual way from the ground up, to create a beautiful, cinematic look for the film.
Sound Design was handled by our in-house audio specialist, David Lawrie, using a mixture foley and wild sound, capture on-location during the shoot. David also composed and recorded all the music used in the film.
