Offensive or Brilliant Marketing?

The other day on Facebook, someone posted the quote by Stephen Fry about the concept of being offended;

“It’s now very common to hear people say, ‘I’m rather offended by that.’ As if that gives them certain rights. It’s actually nothing more… than a whine. ‘I find that offensive.’ It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. ‘I am offended by that.’ Well, so fucking what.”

The commercial above, for US Chain Store, K-Mart, has caused quite a stir with the Christian group “One Million Moms” who demanded it be pulled from screens with immediate effect. The response from K-Mart? They increased the rotation.

What do you think, is this offensive?

We happen to think the commercial is pretty hilarious a great piece of marketing, after all, it has gone viral and has generated considerable debate.
